Travel List for Holidays

A little travel information to pass on that may help ease the stress and anxiety when preparing for holidays. It is a simple but most often neglected travel list. Are you the type of person that worries about what to take and prior to travel always say... "Gee, I hope we have everything?" Well, with a little preparation and putting together a simple list of items to pack beforehand, can save you that worry.

How many times have you or a family member left on vacation and arrived at your destination only to find that you forgot to pack that "oh... so important item? " Well, if you are one of the few who said no, then you obviously must have a pre-travel list. What we normally like to do is simply put out a sheet of paper prior to travel and start marking the little often missed items we wish to take along, as they pop into our mind. Our family has done this for years and it's worked out great!

A Packing List Is Your Travel List

So, you and your family are getting ready for that long anticipated vacation, but just what are you packing? If you're travelling by air and with the airlines now charging huge amounts for baggage, it's important to take only what you need! Why do my wife and daughter always insist on taking their entire clothes closet with them on a 2 week vacation, only to use 2 or 3 items of the 15 that they packed? Is it a girl thing? I read a great article from the host of my favourite television program "Amazing Race" recently. He even mentioned to take only what you absolutely need and are 100% sure you will use it!

I've become extremely proud of myself in being able to pack pretty much everything into a nice size carry on for a typical 2 week vacation. I also keep in mind that I can carry an extra bag home for any souvenirs and such that I've gathered while away. It's so nice to walk off the plane and not have to wait with the hundreds of others at the luggage carousel. A carry-on bag for each of us has worked great on our last adventures. My recommendation for vacation travel is to pack light and try to remember it's a holiday not a 2 week business trip where you need a new outfit every day!

Put Only What You Need, Not Want On Your Travel List

I think my wife is beginning to get the message when preparing and packing for travel. She's beginning to see the light when it comes to packing only what she needs and not what she may need. My daughter still has a lot to learn in that regard and can't quite understand as a teen, that she doesn't need 5 pairs of shoes for a tropical vacation!

Preparing a list is simple and very effective. I always make sure to include these important items below on the list, other than that, it's up to you and what you need and are planning to use.

• Photocopy important travel documents and pack separately. 

• Travel Itinerary and appropriate tickets. 

• Reservations and confirmation numbers and papers. 

• Travel insurance documents. 

• Long Distance calling card arrangements and numbers. 

• ATM and credit cards 

• Driver's License

Ski Travel Trips For A Great Holiday

One of the greatest advantages of ski travel is often held within the fact that folks can make it a group or family affair, and organise this accordingly. However it may happen that some members in the group or even family members may not be as advanced or capable as others and therefore one needs to take this into account to ensure that the maximum enjoyment will be had by all.

Although the saying of one can't please all the people all the time holds true even when planning a holiday, when looking at a ski travel holiday with friends or family a few pointers on what needs to be considered should be taken into account within the planning and execution of this type of travel option. Starting with the planning phase of the ski travel holiday, one should not attempt to take all the responsibilities on by yourself, rather involve the help of others that will be accompanying you on the trip by delegating some of the tasks required. Whether it be travel confirmations, bookings, requests or whatever, assign tasks to fellow group members, and this can be controlled by regular communications between your travel 'committee' - this is especially important when organising a trip for a bigger group.

Due to the nature of a ski travel holiday, it is important to select a destination that has facilities or amenities for the entire group, or at least the vast majority. This fact must take into account the level of expertise or capability when it comes to the skiing abilities of the group members. In the case of everyone being classed within an intermediate to advanced level then any destination could really be considered, however when a couple of novices are amongst the group then consideration in terms of more easily accessible, and gentler ski slopes should be made accordingly. This will at the very least ensure that all concerned will have the opportunity of actually enjoying the slopes on your ski travel holiday. When novices may well be joining the group, the issue of equipment may also require consideration, and within which the availability of skis and other equipment in terms of hiring needs to be taken into account.

If the group planning to go on a ski travel holiday is relatively close in terms of family or friendships, then proximity of accommodations and so forth needs to be taken into account, from a social perspective. One could try and secure a group or block booking in view of this with a resort or travel agent, and which may also help save money too.

Galapagos Travel Information

Only 13 main islands, out of which 5 are inhibited, form the Galapagos Archipelago situated 1000 km from the Ecuadorian mainland. The world's top all around dive site, the top spot for best fish life, best big animal dive, best advanced diving awaits tourists who wish to pay a visit to the healthiest marine environment. Penguins swimming in the equatorial sea, iguanas eating algae meals in the saltwater, dolphins leaping in phosphorescent water are among the rare treats you can find only in Galapagos. You can expect to see amazing creatures crawling, flying or just lying off the shore line.

Adventure travel in Galapagos involves kayaking, mountain biking, riding horses or snorkeling next to the world's most fearless wildlife. When to go

The pleasant weather year round means there is not best time to visit Galapagos. During the hot season, the ocean temperature is warmer so you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling better.

How to get there

You can get to the islands from the main land by plane from Quito or Guayaquil airports. You can see most of the islands via a motor or sailing yacht. There is strict control on tourist access due to the effort made to protect the natural habitat and you must be accompanied by a certified tour guide.

Phuket Travel Informations

Phuket is a great place for a holiday, but as with any destination, it pays to have an idea about the place before you visit. With a little bit of research, you'll be able to save money and have the best time possible. There's no need to make notes, but when it comes to travel information for Phuket, it's best to try and digest as much as you can.

The unit of currency in Phuket is the Thai baht. Travelers checks can be cashed on the island and there are a large number of ATMs that accept international cards. It's also possible to use a credit card to withdraw money from an ATM, although you'll likely incur a charge for doing so. There are money changers in all of the island's most popular destinations (Patong, Phuket City, Kata-Karon and so on), but be careful that you don't get stung by a hefty commission.

In general, most people in Phuket speak at least a little English, especially people who will be trying to sell you stuff. If you get lost, try and find someone younger to ask for directions. Asking an old person might lead to a few confusing exchanges.

Getting around the island is easy enough, but it can be expensive. Taxis will take you from the airport to your hotel, but it's against the law for them to pick up on the street. Tuk-tuks are everywhere, but the fares are expensive. You'll need to negotiate a price, but even then you will still be paying over the odds. However, if you're stranded at night, you may have no other choice.

During the day, there are buses running between the major parts of the island. The fares are usually 20 baht. Motorcycle taxis will take you short distances for about 40 baht. If you are confident on a motorbike, there are numerous places that rent them out for about 200 baht a day.

Staying in touch with friends on the island can be expensive using foreign SIM cards. It works out a lot cheap to just walk into any branch of 7-Elevent and buy a new SIM card for less than 200 baht. They can cost as little as 50 baht from phone sellers. Credit can also be bought from 7-Eleven stores.

If you're buying something from a street seller, unless it's DVDs or CDs, it's best to do a little haggling, especially for clothes. Though some tourists may try, you can't haggle at legit shops in the malls, although you may be able to get a deal from some of the indoor market stalls.

A trip to Phuket needn't be a hassle with a little local knowledge.

Gili Islands, Indonesia - Asia's Premier Diving Site!

General Information

Being in any one of the Gili Islands is definitely an unique experience, considering the geography of the islands.It is just 20 minutes away from Lombok. An interesting fact is that no motorised vehicles are allowed on any of the 3 islands. Gili Meno has a population of only 400 people and fresh water has to be imported daily. It is definitely a place to soak in the tropical atmosphere especially with great beaches all around, friendly locals and also the laid-back setting that you can see all around.

Best time to visit
The average temperature in Lombok is 29°C to 34°C. It is warm year round. So anytime would be a good time, though the peak periods are in June-July.

Budget
Our budget was US$339 for 9 days in Bali, Lombok and Gili Islands.

What to do

Scuba Diving/ Snorkeling

If you are at Gili Islands, you should not miss out on Snorkeling or Scuba Diving. You can purchase these packages from the local travel agencies. The price offered to us was 200,000RP for Snorkeling and 600,000RP for Scuba Diving inclusive of transportation. The best thing about it all is that even when you snorkel, the boats will take you to the middle of the sea where you can actually sea beautiful corals and marine life.

Watersports

Gili Trawangan would be the island where you can do your watersports. They do not have jet-skis. However, they do have para-sailing, wake-boarding etc. Those keen on surfing can also surf. A good spot would be the southern end of the island. Surf boards are available for rent at the island. For any of the above activities you can approach any of the local travel agencies to make arrangements. Kayaking is also an activity to be considered.

Deep Sea Fishing

Deep Sea Fishing is also one main reason why people go to Gili Islands.They have packages where you can stay on board for days they will take around the islands for good fishing spots. The Blue and Black Marlins are definitely a prize to aim for.

Relax

Other than beach-related activities, the other thing which you could is relax and enjoy the tropical setting.One place you can visit is "Beautiful Life". It has a big screen television, 6 huts with DVD players. There are also live bands playing at night. Given the above setting, just sit back and enjoy.

Indonesia's Budget Airlines

Indonesia has been going through a quiet economic revolution and part of that has been the opening of Indonesia's skies to low budget airlines. This has fuelled a change in the way most Indonesians travel, and opened up previously unknown destinations to local tourism.

Before Indonesia had an open skies policy, most Indonesians used to travel on long journeys bus or a boat. To many migrants who flocked to the nation's cities, this often meant traveling for days, to get home to see their loved ones.

All this has changed as many more destinations have opened up, and airports have sprung up in the most isolated and unlikely places. Average Indonesians are on the move, as air flights still remain low compared to International prices- largely fuelled by the country's cheap oil.

This quiet revolution in Indonesian air travel, was not without its critics. During the early days of deregulation, some airlines sprung up selling cheap tickets, but cut back on safety to make a profit. Adam Air was one infamous example, but after one plane simply disappeared into the sea, and several accidents. They were closed down.

The days of the 'wild west' feel of flying domestically in Indonesia has changed. Safety measures have meant that ticket prices have increased, but so has the choice of destinations- and most domestic airlines can now fly again to Europe, and other areas of the World.

There are over half a dozen low budget airlines in Indonesia. Some are regional, ferrying workers to far off Islands in Riau province, to national airlines which ply all the major cities in Indonesia. Some airlines specialize in more remoter destinations, opening them up to tourism and boosting their local economies, offering Indonesians weekend packages to more exotic, and previously neglected destinations. Boosting local business, and connecting the local population to cheaper trade routes.

Sukarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta, is the main regional hub for domestic airlines, and it resembles more an upscale bus terminal nowadays, with affordable food courts, and a wide array of safe transport to the city. But so has Batam in Riau, or Makassar in Sulewesi, and a wide range of lesser airports like Surakarta airport in central Java that has flights to Singapore, and Malaysia.

Indonesian airlines also have adopted a sophisticated booking system, with etickets, and a payment system through local ATM's. Prices are based on the European model, depending on the season, and how long you book in advice, may differ. Consumers in Indonesia are kept up to date by the airlines, receiving regular text messages offering "specials" on certain routes- and passengers can relax in private lounges offered by the airlines, if they become members of their "club."

The benefits of Indonesia's open skies policy has shielded the country from the recession, and created hundreds of thousands of jobs. Businesses are expanding throughout Indonesia, to cater for the growing demand in inter-island commerce, and tourism.
